چکیده

Slow sensors arise in many applications, including sensing chemical concentrations in tracking of contaminant plumes. Slow sensors are often the cause of poor performance and a potential cause of instability. In this paper, we design a modified extremum seeking scheme to account and exploit slow sensor dynamics. We also consider the worst case, which is sensor dynamics governed by a pure integrator. We provide stability results for several distinct variations of an extremum seeking scheme for onedimensional optimization. Then we develop a design for source seeking in a plane using a fully actuated vehicle, prove its closedloop convergence, and present simulation results. We use metal oxide microhotplate gas sensors as a real world example of slow sensor dynamics, model the sensor based on experimental data, and employ the identified sensor model in our source seeking simulations. !DOI: 10.1115/1.4003639"

Inertial Head-Tracker Sensor Fusion by a Complimentary Separate-Bias Kalman Filter

Current virtual environment and teleoperator applications are hampered by the need for an accurate, quickresponding head-tracking system with a large working volume. Gyroscopic orientation sensors can overcome problems with jitter, latency, interference, line-of-sight obscurations, and limited range, but suffer from slow drift. Gravimetric inclinometers can detect attitude without drifting, but...

Source seeking with non-holonomic unicycle without position measurement and with tuning of forward velocity

We consider the problem of seeking the source of a scalar signal using an autonomous vehicle modeled as the non-holonomic unicycle and equipped with a sensor of that scalar signal but not possessing the capability to sense either the position of the source nor its own position. We assume that the signal field is the strongest at the source and decays away from it. The functional form of the fie...

Human Motion Tracking and Orientation Estimation using inertial sensors and RSSI measurements

Real-time tracking of human body motion is an important technology in biomedical applications, robotics, and other human computer interaction applications. Inertial sensors can overcome problems with jitter, latency interference, line-of-sight obscurations and limited range but suffer from slow drift. RSSI based location estimation can detect location without drifting but is slow, sensitive to ...

Seeking Source Discourse Ideology by English and Persian Translators: A Comparative Think Aloud Protocol Study

Discourse audiences are susceptible to fall victims of the concealed ideological representations in discourses at the expanse of changing and modifying their mental models through which they act on the world. Translators as readers and at the same time intercultural mediators need to be equipped with the knowledge of how ideology is accommodated in discourse both not to fall victim to it and to...

Novel techniques for estimation and tracking of radioactive sources

Radioactive source signal measurements are Poisson distributed due to the underlying radiation process. This fact, coupled with the ubiquitous normally occurring radioactive materials (NORM), makes it challenging to localize or track a radioactive source or target accurately. This leads to the necessity to either use highly accurate sensors to minimize measurement noise or many less accurate se...
